Why You Should Care about AI Political Bias

The people behind this tech are trying to resolve the heated debates of our day — by shutting down one side.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve written a bit about the troubling left-wing biases encoded into the widely discussed new AI technology ChatGPT. The new chatbot is happy to pen long, in-depth stories regarding any number of popular progressive fantasies — that Hillary Clinton won the presidential election, for example, or that Stacey Abrams lost her 2018 bid for Georgia governor because of voter suppression. But it refuses to indulge the right-wing alternatives, citing the danger of “misinformation.” At the same time, the AI has standard left-wing views on transgender ideology, the question of drag-queen story hour’s appropriateness for children, and a variety of other ongoing culture-war debates.

My pointing this out has invited a fair amount of scoffs and eye-rolls from online progressives. These critics have posited that I was “either manipulating the system somehow or making fake screenshots”; that the AI’s bias was a silly thing to focus on; that “reality has a liberal bias”; that the conservative premises I was entering were just “hate speech,” which should be anathema to a company that “is working hard to establish trust with the public and policy makers”; or that, as Current Affairs editor in chief Nathan Robinson argued, “it’s not that ChatGPT is left-wing, it’s that you are wrong.” In essence, the bias doesn’t exist, and/or who cares if it does, and/or it exists and it’s good, actually.

This morning, Vice tech writer Matthew Gault got in on the action with a predictably titled article: “Conservatives Are Panicking About AI Bias, Think ChatGPT Has Gone ‘Woke.’” (The subtitle assures readers that “All AI systems carry biases, and ChatGPT allegedly being ‘woke’ is far from the most dangerous one.”) “Accusations that ChatGPT was woke began circulating online after National Review published a piece accusing the machine learning system of left-leaning bias,” Gault wrote, citing my post. “Experts have been sounding the alarm over the biases of AI systems for years,” he notes. It’s just that conservatives are worried about the wrong kind of biases: “In typical fashion for the right-wing, it’s not the well-documented bias against minorities embedded in machine learning systems which has given rise to the field of AI safety that they’re upset about, no — they think AI has actually gone woke.”

Well . . . has it? Gault implies that it’s such a ridiculous question that it doesn’t merit an answer. But he himself fluctuates between scoffing at the premise and admitting its essential truth. Pointing to examples of what he sees as skewed political responses shared by me and other conservatives, he writes: “To them, this was proof that AI has gone ‘woke,’ and is biased against right-wingers.” But “this is all the end result of years of research trying to mitigate bias against minority groups that’s already baked into machine learning systems that are trained on, largely, people’s conversations online,” he adds. “Part of the work of ethical AI researchers is to ensure that their systems don’t perpetuate harm against a large number of people; that means blocking some outputs.” And in any event, “discussions around anti-conservative political bias in a chatbot might distract from other, and more pressing, discussions about bias in extant AI systems.”

In other words: Yes, it’s biased, you morons. But it was previously biased against the good guys, and now we’re working to make it more biased against the bad guys (or “bad outputs”). Oh, and also, stop complaining, because you’re distracting from our efforts to preemptively delegitimize your political views in the new digital information sphere.

My Thoughts About The FTX / Democrat Money Laundering Scheme

I saw a tweet this morning that really opened my eyes to something that not enough people are talking about that is related to this FTX scandal. In this video I give a little bit of backstory for anyone who isn’t following the FTX situation, and then dive into what this tweet said and my thoughts about it.

Major Anti-censorship Update From Texas

Good afternoon Patriots! I just wanted to share some really good news out of Texas regarding their social media anti-censorship law. According to an article on ReclaimTheNet, the law was just upheld by the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. I wanted to make a quick video on this because the judge in this article made an argument that I haven’t seen before regarding Section 230 protections and their implications for censorship.

Texas Anti Censorship Law HB 20

In this podcast, I discuss the Texas Social Media Anti Censorship Law, HB 20. I talk about what it is, what it does, and give some of my thoughts about it. I actually live streamed the recording of the podcast earlier.

Podcast: Tech Pundits React to Elon's Purchase of Twitter

Good evening, Patriots!

OK, ok... We've all heard the talking heads crying about Elon buying Twitter. However, that's not what this week's podcast is about. I decided to give you all the arguments that liberal tech news "journalists" are making about Elon buying Twitter. It's a somewhat different take than you may have heard elsewhere. You may find that people who report on the tech news space have a bit of a different perspective on this from the folks that focus on CRT / wokeness all day long.

This is the kind of perspective you're not likely to get elsewhere because most people who report on tech news are full blown socialists. So, I hope you enjoy this episode!

God bless!

Parallel Economies Podcast Episode 1

Good evening / morning, Patriots!!

OK, I finally published episode 1 of the podcast. Please don't judge me too harshly. 😉 Hopefully, I'll get better with some experience. In this episode, I talk about Elon Musk's decision to turn down the board seat at Twitter, as well as TRUTH Social's CEO, Devin Nunes responding to a number of articles claiming that TRUTH Social has failed already. BTW, there's also a bit of breaking news in here, about the release date of the TRUTH Social Web App. The episode is just over 13 minutes long. Hopefully it came out, OK. I literally just finished exporting it. I hope you like it. ;-)

I'm off to bed!!!

Your Giggles for Today

A guy calls 911 in a panic. “My wife is having a baby! Her contractions are only one minute apart!” “Calm down,” the 911 operator says. “Is this her first child?” “No, you idiot!” the guy shouts. “This is her husband!”

A little girl asks her mother, “How did the human race appear?” The mother answers, “Well, God made Adam and Eve and then they had kids. So all mankind was made.” Two days later the little girl asks her father the exact same question. The father answers, “Many years ago, there were monkeys from which the entire human race evolved.” The confused little girl returns to her mother and says, “Mom, you told me the human race was created by God, and Dad said man developed from monkeys. Why do you have different stories?” The mother answers, “Well, I was referring to my side of the family and your dad was talking about his side.” (Lol! A oldie that needed repeating).

“When my parents got divorced, there was a custody fight over me . ....

PayPal shuts account of group who fought to keep schools open during pandemic
Another casualty of the recent PayPal purge.

UsForThem, a UK parents’ group that campaigned to keep schools open during the pandemic, has been banned from PayPal because of “the nature of its activities.” The group says that after the ban, it is unable to access thousands of pounds in donations.

“We were completely taken aback to learn that PayPal was discontinuing our services ‘due to the nature of [our] activities’. No prior warning or meaningful explanation was given, and despite them saying we could withdraw our remaining balance, we cannot,” said the group’s co-founder Molly Kingsley to The Telegraph.

“UsForThem has only ever been fully transparent about the organization’s aims, and our mission statement is on a prominent page of our website for all to read. That makes clear that our core focus is campaigning for children to be prioritized in public decision-making.

“If something about that mission offends PayPal, why could they not be transparent about that? For a small volunteer organization, this has a significant impact on our ability to operate, as presumably was intended.

“It is extremely hard not to draw the conclusion that this is a politically motivated cancellation of an organization that in some way offends PayPal.”

Toby Young, Free Speech Union’s founder, also claimed PayPal banned his account for political motives. The Free Speech Union’s account was also banned, as well as the account of the non-profit Gays Against Groomers.
